Options: The Hero can be given any equipment allowed from the Space Marine Armoury.
Special Rules
- Independent Character: Unless accompanied by a Command squad, a Hero is an independent character and follows the Independent Character special rules in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.
- Command Squad: The Hero may be accompanied by a Command squad, see the Command squad entry for details. Note that the Hero and the Command squad count as a single HQ choice.
Errata — Chapter Approved: Codex: Space Marines Q&A (v3.0): The line in many Codexes stating that independent characters cease to be independent characters when accompanied by a bodyguard or retinue is too general. The intent is only that he cannot leave his bodyguard while any of them survive, and must maintain unit coherency with them — he can still select independent-character-only items (like Terminator armour), and if all his guards are killed he reverts to being a normal independent character.
