Type: Walker Crew: Bound Daemon

Weapons: The Defiler is armed with a battle cannon, a reaper autocannon and a heavy flamer (actually two flamers firing as one). Because of its Daemonic nature it counts as a monstrous creature in close combat.

Options: The Daemon Engine automatically has the Daemonic Possession vehicle upgrade so ignores any shaken or stunned damage results it suffers.

The heavy flamer can be upgraded to a havoc launcher at +10 points or replaced with the Living Vehicle upgrade at +10 points. The only way either of these vehicle upgrades can be used on the Defiler is as replacements for the heavy flamer.

The reaper autocannon can be replaced by twin-linked heavy bolters at no extra cost or by twin-linked lascannons at +30 points.

Special Rules

Indirect Fire. A Defiler can be configured to be able to fire indirectly as well as directly. This costs +25 points. When fired in this way the Battle Cannon becomes a Barrage (ie, Guess range) weapon with a range of 36" to 60". Strength and AP are unaffected.

Errata — Chapter Approved: Codex: Chaos Space Marines Q&A (v3.0): The maximum indirect fire range should be 72", not 60". A Defiler that moves and fires its battle cannon (a move-or-shoot weapon) may not also fire its other weapons — as a Walker it can normally shoot on the move, but the battle cannon takes precedence and requires it to remain stationary to fire. It can, however, take upgrades from the full Vehicle Upgrades List, with two limits: Living Weapon and the Havoc Launcher may only be taken as a replacement for its heavy flamer, and there is no point taking Daemonic Possession since it already has that upgrade.
