Weapons: The Chaos Lord selects equipment from the Chaos Armoury.

Options: A Chaos Lord may have a single Mark of Chaos and has access to the Chaos Armoury and the Veteran Skill list.

A Lord may be upgraded to a Sorcerer Lord for +10 points. This allows him to select from the Psychic Abilities and Equipment section of the Chaos Armoury.

Chaos Lord is the term used to describe a commander who is still largely a Space Marine; the more Daemonic gifts he has the further he has progressed towards being a Daemon Prince. As a guideline a Chaos Lord with more than 50 points of daemonic abilities can claim to be a Daemon Prince and should be modelled appropriately.

Character: The Chaos Lord is an independent character and follows all the independent character special rules as given in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook. If accompanied by a retinue he must stay in unit coherency with it while any members remain.

Special Rules

Retinue: The Chaos Lord may be accompanied by a Retinue of Chosen (see the Chosen entry for further details).

Errata — Chapter Approved: Codex: Chaos Space Marines Q&A (v3.0): Sorcery is a skill any Lord, Lieutenant, Aspiring Champion, or almost any model with the Mark of Tzeentch can use — there is no separate Sorcerer statline; a Sorcerer's profile is unchanged from its base type. A Daemon Prince (a Lord who has accumulated enough Daemonic Gifts, including Daemonic Stature) cannot use a bolt pistol if it has Daemonic Stature, since that gift restricts ranged weapons to a combi-bolter; a Lord who is fluffed as a "Daemon Prince" but does not actually have Daemonic Stature may use a bolt pistol as normal. How strong is an Aspiring Champion with Daemonic Strength and a power fist? Strength 9 — in Warhammer 40,000, any doubling of a characteristic (such as from a power fist) is applied before flat additions or subtractions (such as Daemonic Strength's +1) are added.
